In the early morning hours of September 20, a massive fire broke out near the airport in Sochi, Russia, as a result of a diesel fuel tank catching fire. Local residents reported explosions.
This was reported by local publics and the governor of the Krasnodar region of the Russian Federation, Veniamin Kondratiev.
According to preliminary data, the fire incident occurred at a Rosneft gas station located in the Adler district on Aviatsionnaya Street.
There are opinions online that the explosion heard by Sochi residents could have been caused by the burning of diesel fuel.
Local authorities said that the area of the fire was 96 square meters. Dozens of firefighters and a lot of equipment were working at the scene.
“In the Adler district of Sochi, a diesel fuel tank caught fire early in the morning… According to preliminary data, there are no casualties. More than 60 people and 15 pieces of equipment are working at the scene,” the governor said.
The Russian official also added that there is no threat of fire spreading.
It is not yet clear what caused the fire in Sochi; the causes of the incident are being investigated.
