Musk’s drug use raises concerns for Tesla and SpaceX executives – WSJ
Board members and top executives of companies close to Elon Musk are concerned that the billionaire is using drugs, reports The Wall Street Journal. This may be the reason for Musk’s strange antics and statements.
According to people familiar with Musk and involved in his companies, drug use by the SpaceX CEO could have serious consequences not only for his health but also for the six companies and billions of dollars in assets he manages.
Musk has been spotted using LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms at private parties around the world, where attendees signed non-disclosure agreements or gave away their phones to get in, sources say. Musk used to smoke marijuana in public and said he had a prescription for psychedelic ketamine.
In 2018, the businessman took several acid pills at a party he organized in Los Angeles. The following year, he consumed mushrooms at an event in Mexico. In 2021, Musk took ketamine with his brother Kimball Musk in Miami at a house party. The businessman also used illegal drugs together with current SpaceX board member and former Tesla board member Steve Jurvetson.
People close to the 52-year-old billionaire claim that he continues to use drugs, especially ketamine. They are concerned that it could cause harm to health and business.
Illegal drug use could be considered a violation of federal policy, which could jeopardize billions of dollars in government contracts for SpaceX. These are investor assets worth about $1 trillion, tens of thousands of jobs, and a large share of the US space program.
The publication notes that Musk did not respond to requests for comment.
Musk’s lawyer Alex Spiro claims that he is regularly tested for drugs at SpaceX and has never failed a test.
