NASA has shown a photo of two dwarf tomatoes that were lost 8 months ago on the International Space Station (ISS), Space.com reports.
In the photo, you can see how the 17% humidity on board the ISS affected the food that was in a special Ziploc bag.
Despite the fact that almost a year had passed since the tomatoes disappeared, the vegetables were found in a plastic bag dehydrated and slightly flattened. With the exception of some discoloration, there were no visible microbial or fungal formations.

The tomatoes were grown during the eXposed Root On-Orbit Test System (XROOTS) experiment in 2022.
The experiment uses hydroponic and aeroponic methods to grow plants without the use of soil or other media, which could be important for future space exploration missions.
NASA notes that the goal of growing food on the ISS is to develop methods that can be used during future missions to the Moon and Mars.
