New blow to Russia’s military infrastructure: drones attack Morozovsk
Rostov region of Russia was massively attacked by drones. The explosions occurred, in particular, in the city of Morozovsk, where a military airfield is located.
Russian planes are based there and carry out strikes against Ukraine.
Eyewitnesses among local residents report that after the loud explosions at night, a fire broke out in the city, with a column of smoke visible in different parts of the city.
The relevant videos and photos were posted on social media and local publics.
Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev said that the drone attack on the night of June 14 cut off power to some settlements in the Morozov district.
“Several settlements are in the blackout zone. Measures are being taken to switch consumers to backup power supply,” he said.
The Russian official also said that air defense forces allegedly successfully repelled a massive drone attack in the region. Golubev also added that no one was injured, but “the consequences on the ground are being clarified.”
Subsequently, the aggressor country’s Ministry of Defense reported that 70 drones had been shot down over the Rostov region. However, these statements cannot be verified.
It should be reminded that the Russian military airfield Morozovsk is located near the city of Morozovsk.
The 559th Guards Bomber Regiment of the 1st Guards Mixed Aviation Division of the Russian Air Force is based at the airfield. The airfield is home to Su-34 frontline bombers, as well as Su-30 and Su-35 fighters.
These aircraft are used by Russia to conduct air strikes on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukrainian settlements near the frontline and bordering Russia.
It is worth noting that this is not the first UAV attack on this Russian military airfield. The previous massive drone attack took place on the night of April 4-5. The first explosions occurred around midnight local time.
