New Russian drones will not be able to take off: experts have named the reasons

Engineers are developing new models of UAVs, but sanctions, bureaucracy and security forces do not allow them to be used.

Russian companies are trying to establish the production of drones and presented new models at the exhibition ‘Aeronet 2035’, which is held in Moscow. The publication ‘Expert’ revealed the problems due to which drones will never be able to take to the sky.

First of all, drone manufacturers in Russia are very dependent on foreign parts for assembly — it is good if at least half of the parts for a particular model are created in Russian factories. Companies are actively engaged in the so-called ‘import substitution’, but suffer from a shortage of technologies against the background of sanctions.

Another serious problem of the production of UAVs in Russia is the lack of coordination between the centers of expertise, development and adoption of regulatory decisions. The country also lacks effective tools for innovation management, certification of new types of equipment and attestation of specialists, and the Russian authorities are in no hurry to adopt relevant laws and regulations, for example, an operator training program. As a result, the Russians do not have the right to fully use drones.

Russia also has few test sites for experimental drone-related technologies, as well as areas where drones can be launched without approval from air traffic control services or authorities. Experts from the company ‘Fly Drone’ claim that there are no regulations for aerial photography in the country — state agencies forbid the use of such data. The Russian Federation also lacks the infrastructure for conducting flights, as well as the rules for the use of means of protection against UAVs, the so-called jammers – such a system is needed to control users.

The co-founder of ‘Fly Drone’ Oleksandr Kaniovskyi said that there is a so-called ‘dronophobia’ in Russia, that is, many Russians are afraid of devices that fly overhead. He suggests holding various educational and sporting events, such as races, to get people used to drones.

‘Russia has a huge potential in the field of development of unmanned aircraft systems. However, it can only be realized if bureaucratic barriers are quickly removed. Otherwise, we risk being shot down at takeoff, while other leading aviation powers will continue to gain altitude., with which we won’t even be seen as a result,’ writes the editor of ‘Expert’ Mykola Ivashov.

Earlier it was written that new UAVs ‘Stork’, ‘Binoculars’ and ‘Shershen’ were presented in Russia. These models are proposed to be used by the Russian military to conduct hostilities in Ukraine.
