Norway will provide Ukraine with an additional batch of NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems
Norway, following the USA, announced a new military assistance package for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The new aid package includes additional NASAMS air defense systems worth $30,000,000. Norway is going to transfer part of the equipment from its stocks in the near future, and the rest will be produced by Kongsberg Defense and Raytheon. The number of SAMs to be sent to Ukraine has not yet been disclosed. It is only known that Norway has ordered 8 launchers and 4 control centers. In addition, the Norwegian Ministry of Defense clarified in a statement that the cost of the equipment planned for transfer from the armed forces’ stocks is equivalent to the cost of the ordered equipment.
NASAMS is a mobile air defense missile system for destroying maneuvering targets at low and medium altitudes. The complex was developed in the early 90s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense with the participation of the American Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. The range of the AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles is 20-40 km and the maximum altitude is 20 km.
