Not only Leopard 2: Poland will hand over 60 PT-91 Twardy tanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Recently, Poland announced that it would hand over 14 German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. As it turned out, in addition to them, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive another 60 tanks of another model.
These are PT-91 Twardy tanks. The Prime Minister of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, said this. Tank deliveries should begin in the near future. By the way, the transfer of PT-91 Twardy was discussed back in July 2022, but then it was just a rumor. By the way, Poland has a total of 232 PT-91 Twardy tanks.
The PT-91 Twardy is a Polish main battle tank, created under license on the basis of the Soviet T-72M1. The first PT-91 prototypes were made in 1993. The basic version of the tank was serially produced at the Bumar-Labenda plant from 1995 to 2002. The main feature of the PT-91 is Twardy protection using ERAWA’s proprietary active armor. It has 394 blocks. They cover the front of the hull and the turret. These blocks are placed almost without gaps to each other. Tests have shown that ERAWA blocks increase the tank’s protection by 30-70%, depending on the type of projectile.
