Occupants complain: use of WhatsApp increases the threat of strikes from the Ukrainian Armed Forces – ISW

The Russian command complains about soldiers who use their own phones on the front line and use WhatsApp and SMS.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

It is noted that the Russian military has been repeatedly warned about the dangers of using social networks and the Internet, but the occupiers ignore the words of the command.

“WhatsApp and other messages sent by the Russian military are being intercepted by Ukrainian interceptors, including documents, screenshots of conversations and media files,” the statement said.

In particular, the Russian command blamed the use of Russian mobile phones for the devastating strike of the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the area of concentration in Makiivka, Donetsk region, on New Year’s Eve 2023. At the same time, the Russians have been trying to solve this problem for a year.

  • On New Year’s Eve, the Ukrainian military attacked a dormitory in Makiivka, where there were many Russians who had been mobilized. On January 2, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the attack on the occupiers in Makiivka. According to British intelligence, more than 300 people died there. Later it became known that a large accumulation of phone signals helped to determine the location of the Russians.
