OpenAI improves ChatGPT voice assistant for more natural communication

OpenAI has introduced an update to Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT, significantly improving the quality of voice interaction with artificial intelligence. The new version is designed for more natural dialogue – the assistant interrupts users less and demonstrates a more personalized approach to communication.

Revolutionary improvements in voice mode

OpenAI has introduced significant updates to Advanced Voice Mode in ChatGPT, greatly improving the quality of communication with artificial intelligence. According to TechCrunch, the AI assistant has become a more attentive conversationalist who less frequently interrupts users during dialogue.

Manuka Stratta, a post-training researcher at OpenAI, presented these changes in a video address on the company’s official social channels. The update aims to address a common problem with AI assistants – their tendency to interrupt users during thoughtful pauses or when they’re catching their breath.

Free ChatGPT users have received access to the new version of Advanced Voice Mode, which allows for conversation pauses without unwanted interruptions from the AI. For premium users, including Plus, Teams, Edu, Business, and Pro subscribers, the company has implemented additional improvements – the assistant not only interrupts less frequently but also demonstrates an enhanced personality.

OpenAI representatives emphasize that the updated voice assistant for paid users has become “more straightforward, engaged, concise, specific, and creative in its responses.”

These improvements come amid growing competition in the voice AI assistant sphere. Notably, Sesame, a startup backed by Andreessen Horowitz and founded by Oculus co-founder Brendan Iribe, has recently gained attention with its natural voice assistants Maya and Miles. Additionally, major tech companies are also ramping up efforts in this direction – Amazon is preparing to launch a new version of Alexa based on large language models.

The update to ChatGPT’s voice mode demonstrates an important step in developing natural interaction between humans and artificial intelligence. This reflects OpenAI’s ongoing commitment to improving its technologies and maintaining leadership positions in the AI assistant market.
