Palantir to develop AI system for the US Army for $178 million

The American company Palantir has won a $178.4 million contract with the US Army to create an artificial intelligence system for reconnaissance and guidance in combat.

According to Palantir, it will deploy its systems inside a large truck, the first army vehicle with AI on board. This is a TITAN (Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node) ground station.

TITAN is designed to collect data from space, airborne, and ground sensors and use AI to process this information. The goal is to increase the efficiency of mission management and precision fire over long distances.

According to Palantir, the TITAN solution is focused on maximum convenience for soldiers, taking into account their feedback at all stages of development.

The project brings together traditional Pentagon contractors such as Northrop Grumman and L3Harris, as well as new companies such as Anduril Industries and Palantir.

Palantir CEO Alex Karp called TITAN a logical extension of the controversial Maven project to use machine learning to analyze drone data. In his opinion, this is a step by the Pentagon to use advanced technologies in combat operations.

Earlier, AFCEA International reported that TITAN will become the first army intelligence station based on AI and machine learning.

Palantir’s ties to the military have raised concerns in the UK, where the company is working on a project for a unified medical data platform.

Palantir is an American developer of software platforms for analyzing and integrating big data from various sources. The company provides its solutions to both government agencies and large commercial organizations and financial institutions.

Palantir’s key products are two platforms: Palantir Gotham, focused on the public sector, and Palantir Metropolis for the corporate sector. They allow you to process and analyze heterogeneous data sets to improve decision-making efficiency.

In the past, the company’s activities have repeatedly drawn criticism and accusations of cooperation with special services, market monopoly, and an opaque corporate structure with a closed management system.

Palantir is known for its involvement in the development of controversial projects for military and government customers, including the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the interests of national security.
