Parliament considers amendments to the law on mobilization: postponement for graduate students and persons caring for the disabled

The Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence reviewed 260 amendments to the draft law on mobilization in Ukraine at a meeting on Friday. Among them, amendments allowing postgraduate students of all forms of education to receive a deferment from the draft were approved. This information was shared by MP Iryna Friz of the European Solidarity faction.

In her Facebook post, Friese noted that the committee focused on considering amendments related to deferral and reservation, focusing on amendment number 2105. According to her, the committee supported an amendment that provides for a deferral for conscripts with spouses who have a disability of group I or II, especially those who have faced the loss of limbs, as well as those with cancer, mental or psychological disabilities, or are parents of minor children.

In addition, a deferral was supported for persons whose parents or spouse’s parents have a disability of group I or II, provided that there are no other family members, except for those liable for military service, who could provide care for them. The deferral will also be granted to persons liable for military service who are second-degree family members of a person with a disability of group I or II and are engaged in permanent care for him or her, as well as to postgraduate students of state-funded and commercial forms of education.

However, certain categories of citizens were not granted a reprieve, including senior officials of the NABU and the SBI, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, persons with diplomatic rank, as well as religious preachers and clergymen. Freese emphasized that these issues should be regulated through the law on alternative service.

It is noted that the next meeting of the committee is scheduled for Monday, March 25, where the consideration of amendments will continue.
