Patriot developer to create remote power supply system for UAVs
Raytheon Technologies has announced the creation of a wireless network that will allow UAVs and ground facilities to transmit electricity remotely. A note about this is posted on the defense manufacturer’s website.
The order for the development of the wireless network was placed by DARPA. It will be used to deliver electricity to “conflict environments.” The network will be created as part of the agency’s Energy Web Dominance initiative, which aims to develop advanced solutions for the transmission of electricity in a contactless manner.
The POWER system will be based on high-altitude drones with a laser energy transmission system. The energy directed into the sky will be relayed to the destination (drone, ground object, etc.). This approach will allow aircraft to stay in the air for any amount of time.
Flying repeaters will form an “energy network.” With its help, military logisticians will be able to direct energy to the places where it is most needed.
