Patriot manufacturer presents a more powerful radar for NASAMS air defense systems
Raytheon has brought a longer-range radar for NASAMS air defense systems to the Paris Air Show. According to Army Recognition, it is called GhostEye MR.
NASAMS operates in 13 countries, including Ukraine. The Norwegian-American SAMs are used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to destroy UAVs, missiles, and other targets. The main competitive advantage of GhostEye MR is its range. It is able to detect air targets much further than its predecessor. The new radar does this more accurately.
Raytheon engineers have used two advanced technologies in GhostEye MR. This includes the AESA active matrix and gallium nitride (GaN) electronics. Thanks to these technologies, the new radar is able to detect massive air attacks at a considerable distance. It is worth noting that GhostEye MR can be used not only in tandem with NASAMS. The radar boasts compatibility with other air defense systems.
The first NASAMS systems were delivered to Ukraine last fall. They can detect air targets at a distance of up to 120 km. To defeat them, NASAMS uses modified AIM-120 missiles. During the first five months, NASAMS systems intercepted more than 100 UAVs and missiles in the skies over Ukraine.
