Pentagon: Ukrainian drone strikes resulted in a 14% decrease in production of Russian oil refineries and a significant increase in the cost of fuel in the country
Since the beginning of 2024, Ukrainian special services have launched a campaign to disable critical installations at Russian oil refineries. These facilities are key to generating revenue for the aggressor country, providing the population with fuel, and waging a war of aggression against Ukraine.
Information from the Pentagon
The Pentagon published a report to the US Congress, in which he noted that Ukrainian drone strikes led to a 14% decrease in the production of Russian oil refineries. This resulted in a 20-30% increase in domestic fuel prices and a six-month ban on gasoline exports. In addition, Russia is forced to import oil products from Kazakhstan and Belarus, which was previously unthinkable.
Impact on military equipment
Ukrainian drones damaged a number of twenty refineries that produced diesel fuel and fuel oil used in military equipment. Although the Pentagon does not yet see any critical damage to the Russian military machine, it notes that Ukrainian strikes are becoming more accurate and massive, causing more and more damage.
Purpose of attacks and consequences
The Ukrainian attacks target not only fuel storage facilities but also unique equipment produced by only a few companies in the world. The sale of this equipment is closely monitored and subject to severe sanctions, so Russia and its allies cannot replace the damaged equipment on their own.
The decline in Russia’s oil refining capacity is leading to an increase in crude oil reserves, which in turn is driving down global oil prices. This also negatively affects the enrichment opportunities of the terrorist country.
