Poland may be punished in the EU for blocking the border with Ukraine – media

The European Commission is considering imposing sanctions on Poland over delays at the border with Ukraine and the blockade of cargo. According to information received from a source in the EC and disseminated by RMF FM, this decision may be a reaction to Warsaw’s failure to fulfill its obligations under European law.

In particular, it is the obligation to ensure the uninterrupted movement of trucks from Ukraine through specially created solidarity corridors. The EC expresses concern over the lack of sufficient action by Poland to resolve the situation with the protests of Polish carriers, which complicate border crossings. Interestingly, the strikers themselves cannot clearly state the reason for the blockade, which may indicate that the strike was artificially organized by someone else.

At present, the European Commission is not commenting on possible specific measures against Poland, as negotiations with the Ukrainian and Polish sides are ongoing.

However, according to unofficial sources, the EC is discussing Poland’s violation of EU regulations on trade liberalization with Ukraine.

As a reminder, this regulation has recently been extended until June 2024. The European Commission is now actively studying the legal grounds for initiating this procedure against Poland.

On November 6, Polish carriers began blocking truck traffic at the Krakivets-Korchova, Yahodyn-Dorokhusk, and Rava-Ruska-Krebenne checkpoints.

Currently, according to various sources, there are about 20 thousand people in traffic jams caused by the blockade. car. Because of this, conflicts often arise between strikers and people who have been stuck in traffic for days.

In addition, due to strikes and the introduction of new customs rules at the Ukrainian border for fuel, including gas for cars, gas prices at gas stations in Ukraine have risen sharply.
