Poland to establish a helicopter base near the Ukrainian border
A new air base will be established in the Polish city of Świdnik, Lublin Voivodeship, near the border with Ukraine. Helicopters will be stationed there on a permanent basis, the Polish Ministry of Defense said.
According to the Polish ministry, on March 25, at the Lublin airport, Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysh signed a letter of intent on cooperation between the Ministry of National Defense and the Lublin Voivodeship.
According to the Minister of Defense, this permanent base will be located on an area of 100 hectares, which will be built as part of an agreement between the Ministry of National Defense and local government partners.
- On the night of March 24, Russia fired 29 cruise missiles at Ukraine. At 04:23, one of them flew for 39 seconds into Poland near the village of Osierdów. The Polish military sent up fighter jets just in case, but did not shoot it down; it returned to the territory of Ukraine.
- Poland’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that a Russian missile violated the country’s airspace on the night of March 24, saying that Warsaw would demand an explanation from Moscow.
- Today, a spokesman for the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command said that the Polish military command knew that the Russian missile that flew over Lublin region on the morning of March 24 would “turn back to Ukraine” – that’s why it was not shot down.
