Poland to start producing Javelin ATGMs in addition to Spike-LR

Poland is already producing the Spike-LR ATGM, developed by Israeli engineers from Rafael. The country’s authorities believe that this is not enough. It wants to localize the production of Javelin ATGMs in Poland. The desire of the Polish authorities calls into question the feasibility of launching the production of the Pirat ATGM, which is a Polish-Ukrainian development.

Polish Grupa Zbrojeniowa has signed a cooperation agreement with the North American company Javelin. The latter is founded by Lockheed Martin and RTX. In accordance with the agreement, serial production of the ATGM will be launched at the production facilities owned by Mesko AS. The project will also involve companies affiliated with the Polish Armaments Group. Initially, Poland will produce only missiles for ATGMs without launchers.

In 2020, official Warsaw placed an order for the supply of 60 ATGMs and 180 anti-tank missiles. The contract amounted to USD 54 million. Later, the agreement included 50 units of more modern LWCLU launchers, as well as 500 anti-tank missiles in the FGM-148F modification, which are equipped with a universal warhead. These weapons cost the Poles another $103.5 million.

The Pirat ATGM, jointly developed by Poland and Ukraine, has a semi-active laser guidance system. In light of the latest news, his fate is in doubt.
