President of Ukraine Zelensky signed a law on cloud services

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed a law on cloud services, which was passed by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on February 17. This will allow the use of cloud services in government agencies, thus reducing corruption risks in the purchase of equipment and significantly reducing budget expenditures.

According to The Economist, digital information is growing tenfold every five years. In order to process more and more information, the authorities and local governments responsible for the operation of public information systems need to periodically increase the amount of computing and human resources. In order to optimize the data processing process, the government decided to introduce the Cloud First principle – to move the main government IT services in the “cloud”.

Also, the law on cloud services will make Ukraine attractive to the world’s largest providers of cloud services – Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud. This should encourage the latter to invest and build large data centers in Ukraine.

According to analysts at Synergy Research and Canalys, the cloud services market grew to $178 billion in 2021, up to $49 billion from 2020.
