“Pulled out of the museum”: occupants throw a rare APC-90 “Rostock” to storm Avdiivka
Ukrainian troops defending Avdiivka defeated a Russian convoy of vehicles. Among the lost vehicles was a rare APC-90 Rostock.
This became known from a video of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Lieutenant General Marko Bezruchko.
Ukrainian Armed Forces defeated the occupiers during an assault near Krasnohorivka. Among the armored vehicles, the observers identified an APC-90 “Rostok” that had been abandoned. A heavily damaged armored vehicle AMN-590951 is also standing next to the armored personnel carrier.
The video was recorded on the temporarily occupied territory. Therefore, the Russians have the opportunity to evacuate the APC-90 Rostock if it is not hit by a drone. Rostock’s first appearance at the front was recorded in October 2013.
For Russia, the BTR-90 is the first development after the collapse of the USSR. It was created by the Gorky Automobile Plant in 1994. The Russian Federation adopted the Rostock in 2008, and planned to start mass production in 2011. Serial production did not begin due to a change in the concept of the Army’s weapons. In addition, work began on another APC, now known as the BTR-82A. The machine was cheaper and more efficient than the Rostock.
It is known that a few samples of the BTR-90 were produced. They were stored in a museum in Cuba, probably from there they took the vehicles for combat operations. A special feature of the BTR-90 is the ability to turn on the spot, as the wheels can be turned in different directions. The 8-wheel suspension is independent and the transmission is hydromechanical.
