The German company Rheinmetall has begun construction of a new “hybrid” plant in Szeged, Hungary, which will serve both civilian and defense needs.
This plant is considered to be Rheinmetall’s first major hybrid facility and is valued at approximately EUR 63 million. The area will occupy approximately 15 thousand square meters on a total area of 85 thousand square meters.
The plant will not only expand Rheinmetall’s capabilities in Europe but will also focus on the Russian-Ukrainian war. It will produce a wide range of products, such as electrical components such as nanostructured capacitors or means of utilizing hydrogen for energy regeneration.
According to the plan, the military facilities will occupy a tenth of the plant’s production area. On-site work is scheduled to begin in August 2025. In addition, Rheinmetall is actively developing cooperation with the European Union and other partners to increase production of military products.
