Rivian is recalling almost all of its electric cars due to possible steering problems
Rivian Automotive on Friday announced the recall of about 13,000 electric vehicles due to a potential technical problem that could cause the driver to lose control. Electric vehicles produced in 2021 and 2022 are subject to recall, writes The Wall Street Journal with reference to a company representative.
The automaker explained that the recall decision was made after it was discovered that the latch that connects the upper control arm and the steering knuckle may have been improperly installed. According to a company representative, in some cases this can lead to loss of steering control. However, no injuries to drivers due to this defect were recorded. Rivian currently produces three electric models: the Rivian R1T pickup truck, the Rivian R1S crossover and a commercial van.
Rivian said it has emailed recall letters to all customers who may be affected by the issue.
“The safety of our customers will always be our top priority, and we are committed to resolving this issue on all affected vehicles as soon as possible,” the company said.
This is the third recall of cars in the history of the company, which launched the production of electric cars at the end of last year. In May, Rivian recalled about 500 electric vehicles due to a potential problem with passenger airbags, and in August, more than 200 vehicles were recalled due to problems with seat belts.
As for this recall, Rivian said the financial impact of it would be negligible and promised to conduct an audit of all recalled vehicles within 30 days.
