Russia has created its own “analog of Tesla”: the manufacturer asks not to be afraid of the look of an electric car.
The Moscow Automobile Mechanics Institute (MAMI) has presented the first prototype of the future Russian electric car Amber.
The car is being developed by order of the Avtotor company, whose factory in Kaliningrad assembled BMW, KIA, and Hyundai cars, Glavkom reports, citing the Russian RBC.
It is reported that all the main components of the electric car – the engine, inverter, control boards, batteries – were developed and manufactured in Russia. The developers claim that the electric car will be “compact and affordable” because the battery can be rented rather than purchased, and expensive technologies are not required to produce the body.
“This is a prototype of a new electric vehicle from Avtotor. Don’t be afraid of its appearance, the production electric car will be completely different, the photo shows only a prototype unit carrier (test mule) with a body cut from Vesta,” Avtotor said in a statement.
It is noted that the first five pre-production cars are planned to be submitted for certification next year, and mass production will start in 2025.
