Russia has lost six MiG-31 fourth-generation fighters in 16 months

At least one of which could carry hypersonic missiles

The Ukrainian Armed Forces have not shot down a single MiG-31 fighter during the large-scale war against Russia. However, in 16 months, the Russian Air Force has lost at least half a dozen such aircraft.

The first loss of a MiG-31 was recorded in late February 2022. The plane left the runway on its own and was damaged. The incident occurred in the Novgorod region of Russia.

The situation repeated itself in mid-fall 2022, but in the temporarily occupied Crimea. Moreover, there is a possibility that it was a version of the MiG-31K that can launch hypersonic/aeroballistic missiles. Before that, another fighter jet went down in the Leningrad region (in April).

The fourth plane was lost in December 2022 in Primorsky Krai, and four months later a fighter jet crashed in Murmansk Oblast due to an engine malfunction. In early June, a video of the MiG-31 crash appeared.

Thus, the fighter jet that crashed the day before became the sixth loss. Yes, the Russians will be able to restore some aircraft, but it will take time. Also last year, it was reported that the MiG-31K was put out of commission in Belarus. But this information was not confirmed.
