Russia has started sending T-54 tanks made in 1946 to the front, – CIT (video)
The “Second Army of the World” has removed Soviet T-54 tanks from storage at its base in Arsenyev, which had been developed before the end of World War II.
For the first time since the beginning of the war, T-54/55 tanks have been removed from the reserve base in the Far East. This was reported by Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) analysts on March 22.
The experts noted that the echelon had recently departed from Arsenyev, Primorsky Krai. This city is home to the 1295th Central Tank Reserve and Storage Base. This is not the first attempt to supply old armored vehicles from this location. In October 2022, in Yekaterinburg, the Russian military filmed an echelon of T-62M(V) tanks that also departed from Arsenyev.
The investigators emphasized that the use of T-62 tanks was confirmed in the summer of 2022. Based on the relevant photographs, the experts determined that, in addition to T-72B and T-80BV, a significant number of T-62M(V), T-54 and T-55 tanks were stored at the Arseniyeve base.
“This is the first time that the T-54/55 has been removed from storage,” the post says.
CIT analyzed satellite images from this base. Subsequently, it was found that between June and November 2022, at least 191 tanks (probably mostly T-62s) left the base. Their number may be higher, as the finished equipment is stored in hangars, which does not allow for an accurate count. Also, the number of tanks of these models sent to the front that can still be used by Russian troops is unknown.
Oleksandr Kovalenko, coordinator of the Information Resistance group, noted that for 10 years Russia has been talking about the T-14 Armata, but in the first year of the war, Ukraine is being sent T-54s, which were adopted in 1946. This armored vehicle is older than Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was born on October 7, 1952.
“Judging by the number, the T-54 company is on steroids, and based on the commentary behind the scenes, we can talk about a tank battalion,” he said in Telegram.
