russia puts new cyclone missile carrier on combat duty for the first time
The Russian Navy has a new “replenishment” to replace the cruiser“Moscow” and is in a hurry to use it for the war against Ukraine.
On the morning of August 22, 2023, the Russians launched three Kalibr missile carriers at once with a total volley of up to 20 missiles of this type. Among these three carriers is the newest ship, the Cyclone, which has recently been accepted into the Russian Black Sea Fleet. At the same time, the Russian occupiers conducted “combat reconnaissance” of our air defense using single attack drones.
In general, this means that the Rashists are ready to launch new missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine. This was stated by Natalia Humeniuk, a spokesperson for the UC “South” on the Espresso TV channel.
Defense Express adds that this is essentially a very dangerous signal. The point is that the Russian Black Sea Fleet has an additional ship that can be a carrier of Kalibr missiles. Thus, the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation has 2 frigates, 4 corvettes and up to 5 submarines that can launch “Calibers”, with a total volley of up to 70 missiles of this type.
In more detail, the aforementioned Cyclone ship is a corvette of the 22800 Karakurt project, commissioned by the Russian Navy only in July 2023, and became the first missile-carrying ship for the Russian Black Sea Fleet after the sinking of the Moskva missile cruiser.
The construction of the Cyclone missile corvette began in 2016 and was launched in 2020, but the ship’s tests were delayed by more than a year behind schedule. This ship can carry up to 8 Kalibr missiles, which are loaded into a universal launcher. The Cyclone is also armed with a 76-mm gun in the bow and a naval version of the Pantsir-ME system with a declared missile range of up to 20 km and a target hit height of up to 15 km.
The Cyclone corvette has a hull length of 67 meters, a displacement of 870 tons, a crew of 39 people, autonomy and range of up to 15 days, up to 2,500 miles at a speed of 12 knots. At the end of June 2023, the racist ship Cyclone was still standing on the territory of the Zaliv shipyard in the temporarily occupied Kerch.
At the same time, according to the National Resistance Center, the Russian occupiers plan to use the Cyclone and two other ships of the 22800 Karakurt project to form the Azov Naval District with a base in the temporarily occupied Mariupol.
