Russian soldiers complain: Ukrainian Armed Forces launch flocks of drones under the leadership of a “queen” – media (video)
The Armed Forces of Ukraine can launch a flock of drones on the battlefield, flying over long distances accompanied by another repeater drone. A Russian soldier who survived the bombing described one such case.
The military innovation that worried the representative of the Russian Armed Forces was reported on the Newsweek portal.
The portal’s journalists drew attention to a video by the Izvestia media outlet that showed a Russian from the BARS unit. The man said that he saw a flock of Ukrainian FPV drones flying towards Russian positions. Above the small drones hovered a larger device, which he called a “uterus” (or “queen” in English).
“They send a ‘wing’ with a repeater that relays the signal. Below it, they send a flock of 10 FPV drones. The queen flies higher [and operates] in a narrow detection range. She guides the flock, then the flock drops to the positions and starts working,” the Russian explained.
The report also explained that the repeater allows FPV drones to save battery power. For example, at some point they may land and wait for an opportunity. The repeater, meanwhile, detects targets and then sends the command to attack.
“When a large mother drone spots a target, the kamikazes take off, sometimes within a few meters of the target, and attack,” Newsweek quoted the Russian as saying.

The Newsweek portal noted that they had written a letter to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine to get confirmation of such tactics of the Armed Forces, but received no response.
