Russians “Caliber” cruise missiles use electronics from the 70s

On Thursday, the occupiers launched a rocket attack on Vinnytsia. For this, they used Kalibr cruise missiles. According to Oleg Katkov, a military expert who is the editor-in-chief of the online publication Defense Express, in 99% of cases, Calibers are launched in pairs. For example, if three rockets reached Vinnytsia, then four were launched. It is most likely that one of the missiles did not fly due to a technological defect or was shot down or fell by itself after launch.

Katkov emphasized that a missile attack was carried out on Vinnytsia from the ship 21631 ‘Buyan’. It is capable of carrying four cruise missiles on board. There is nothing surprising in the fact that one missile could not take off. This happens quite often. The fact is that the Kalibr cruise missiles use electronics from the 70s. It was developed by Soviet engineers. During this time, they did not receive a more technological ‘filling’ of the ‘Caliber’ rocket.

According to Katkov, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation claims that ‘Caliber’ can hit targets with an accuracy of up to three meters. In fact, this is far from the case. The error in a missile strike can be much greater. The Russian defense industry purposefully overestimates the accuracy of missiles because it supplies them for export. If you analyze the strikes of ‘Caliber’ on Ukraine, you can come to the conclusion that the real accuracy of hitting these cruise missiles varies within 200-300 meters.
