Jeep has started selling the Avenger subcompact crossover with a Peugeot engine. Gasoline modification suddenly appeared on the Italian and Spanish websites of the brand, although last week the Avenger debuted in the form of an electric car.
The rapid launch of the fuel version into the series was made possible by the unification with crossovers of the Stellantis concern: the Avenger borrowed the PureTech three-cylinder engine and manual transmission from them.
From the front, the gasoline Jeep Avenger differs from the electric car of the same name only in the absence of a blue nameplate on the hood between the headlights. A lone exhaust pipe is added at the rear, but the bumper changes minimally. In the cabin, there are signs of the fuel version – a mechanical gearbox selector and a third pedal.
The technology of the miniature novelty is the same as the basic Peugeot 2008, DS 3 or Opel Mokka. The 1.2-liter engine of the French PureTech family produces 100 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. Jeep Avenger does not yet have an automated gearbox because the 8-speed ZF automatic is reserved only for more powerful modifications. The front-wheel drive has no alternative. Jeep has not yet disclosed the acceleration dynamics, but it is known that in the mixed cycle, the 4.1-meter crossover consumes 5.6 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers.
The debut of the petrol Jeep Avenger becomes clear when you compare the prices. In Italy, the basic version of the crossover with ‘mechanics’ costs 26,900 euros, and the ‘battery’ Avenger is almost one and a half times more expensive – from 39,500 euros. Most likely, the novelty is still waiting for an expansion of the range, but the probability of the appearance of an economical diesel subcompact Jeep is minimal.
