Satellite spots Tu-22M3 with a “grill” to protect it from drones
A satellite image of the Dyahylevo air base has appeared on the Internet. The enemy deployed 12 IL-76 transporters, six Tu-95MS missile carriers, 4 Su-30 fighters, and 3 Tu-22M3 bombers.
On two Tu-22M3 bombers, you can see something similar to “grills”. This refers to protective visors against drones. The photo of the “strategists” with the “barbecues” was published on the X-account of OSINT analyst MT_ Anderson.

0.5M📷 from August 29, 2023. Hadn’t looked at this base in a while and wasn’t all that interested until I saw the below post from @Aviation_Intel. Sure looks a lot like some sort of ‘camo’ or drone protection on 2x Tu-22s at Dyagilevo. https://t.co/2sc4kKzbcO pic.twitter.com/5GbPV5CrrN– MT Anderson (@MT_Anderson) August 31, 2023
Defense Express journalists note that the “grills” are most likely removable. Otherwise, the aerodynamic characteristics of the missile carrier may suffer.

If we compare the location of the protective canopy with the design of the Tu-22M3, we can see that it covers the fuel tanks. They are the most vulnerable point of an airplane.
