Sean Penn stars in Ukrainian anthology film “War Through the Eyes of Animals” in Los Angeles
In Los Angeles, the filming of the last short story, The Eagle, for the Ukrainian film anthology War Through the Eyes of Animals, has finished. American actor Sean Penn plays the main role, Deadline reports.
The film War Through the Eyes of Animals is an anthology and consists of nine parts, each with its own director. The film is dedicated to animals suffering from the ecocide caused by the war.
The last part of The Eagle is directed by Ukrainian director Myroslav Slaboshpytsky (The Tribe). The story is set at the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of the Chernobyl reserve. A young sound engineer went there at the request of a foreign producer to record the voices of rare birds.
“It was a pleasure to work with a legend of world cinema and one of the best actors of our time. His professionalism and dedication left me in complete awe. Working with Penn on set was an extraordinary directorial experience and a true celebration of creativity,” said Slaboshpytsky.
The second part of the novel The Eagle will be filmed in a Ukrainian nature reserve that has suffered from Russian shelling. Filming is planned for January-February 2024, and the premiere is scheduled for 2024.
The first three short stories in the film almanac, Rabbit or There and Back Again, Son, and Cow in the Fog, were filmed in Ukraine in the winter of 2022-2023. They were included in the first trailer that was presented at the Berlin Film Festival. All the stories in this anthology are based on real-life events that emphasize that environmental disasters go far beyond the borders of states.
