Shahed-136 prototype found: it turned out to be a German drone from the 80s (photo)

An image of a German DAR drone appeared on social media. It is a prototype of the Shahed-136. Initially, the IAI Harpy anti-radar drone was created in Israel on the basis of DAR. It was this design that Iranian engineers used as a basis for the Shahed-136, which later became the Russian Geranium-2.

The project to develop a disposable drone was launched by Germany in the 1980s in cooperation with the United States. The Bundeswehr and the U.S. Army planned to use DAR as a decoy to detect Soviet air defense systems.

The tender for the drone was won by Dornier, an aircraft manufacturer that operated in the German market from 1922 to 2002. Texas Instruments technologies were used in the design of Die Drohne Antiradar. The flight weight of the kamikaze drone was 110 kg. It was capable of staying in the sky for up to three hours, traveling at a speed of 250 km/h. The flight range of the DAR was 600 km.

A special launch vehicle based on MAN 22.240DE was used to launch barrage munitions. The launch container held six aircraft.

The Bundeswehr was to receive DAR drones in the early 1990s. “The Cold War was over by this time, and the drone had lost its relevance.
