Show of force: US nuclear aircraft carrier arrives in South Korea despite DPRK threats
On Thursday, October 12, a US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier arrived in the South Korean port city of Busan to demonstrate its strength in response to the DPRK’s nuclear and missile threats
It is noted that the aircraft carrier arrived during joint exercises of the United States, South Korea and Japan in international waters southeast of the South Korean island of Jeju.
Recently, the South Korean Defense Ministry announced that the five-day visit of the aircraft carrier is part of an agreement between Seoul and Washington to increase the “regular visibility” of US strategic assets to the Korean Peninsula.
The last time the aircraft carrier visited South Korea was in September 2022. Another American nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the Nimitz, also visited the port of Busan in March.
- On the night of October 10-11, the USS Gerald R. Ford arrived at the eastern shores of the Mediterranean.
