On November 8, it was officially announced that the Government of the Slovak Republic failed to approve the fourteenth military aid package for Ukraine in the amount of 40.3 million euros.
Bratislava failed to vote on Ukraine after all
What is important to understand is that the proposal to supply aid to Kyiv was prepared by the former leadership of the Slovak Defense Ministry.
According to recent reports, the military aid was to include 4 million rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 5,172 rounds of large-caliber ammunition for 125 mm guns, 140 missiles for the Kub air defense system, eight mortars, and 1,200 mortars.
It is quite possible that this refers to the aid package that Slovak President Zuzana Chaputova opposed, as the proposal came after the parliamentary elections.
Her team claims that the country’s leader simply “respects the results of democratic elections,” the winner of which, Smer-SD, promised voters “not to give Ukraine a single bullet.”
It is also worth mentioning that throughout the Russian-Ukrainian war, official Bratislava managed to hand over 13 packages of military aid to Kyiv totaling 671 million euros.
What is important to know about the new pro-Russian government in Slovakia
As mentioned earlier, after his appointment, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico officially announced that he was not going to continue supplying military aid to Kyiv.
Let them negotiate peace for 10 years rather than kill each other for 10 years without any result,” he said.
Nevertheless, Fizio said, he is not going to prevent Slovak companies from producing and supplying weapons to their customers, including Ukraine.
