Startup Firestorm has developed a mini-factory for the production of drones right at the front
Firestorm has developed a mini-factory for the rapid production of modular drones using 3D printing.
The xCell mini-factory can be deployed near the front line to produce drones for specific missions or to quickly convert old systems to perform a specific operation. The technology makes it possible to print a drone frame that can be quickly equipped with pre-configured electronic components, motors, and payloads.
“You can create drones of the desired modifications within a few hours,” says Firestorm co-founder and CEO Dan Magee.
Firestorm has already opened a factory in San Diego that will serve a dual purpose: 3D printing of drones and creation of xCells. Meji said that the plant will produce more than 500 drones a month, and that the wars of the future will require tens of thousands of drones every month.
Firestorm plans to produce various drones, including those that can continue to operate in environments with signal loss. The company also claims that its drones can easily avoid radar.
