Survey of Ukrainian startups: 24% continue to work, 46% – work partially/remotely, 28% – do not work at all

In order to promptly respond to the new challenges facing participants in the startup ecosystem of Ukraine under martial law, the Ukrainian Foundation of Startups conducted an online study of the ecosystem.

About 150 founders of Ukrainian startups took part in the survey.

Respondents answered questions about the possibility of continuing their activities, in particular, the need for relocation, teamwork, the need for funding and investment, further project development plans, and more.

The results of the study allow us to analyze the current state of the Ukrainian startup ecosystem. In particular: regarding the location of startup teams: 71% remained in Ukraine, 28% are currently partially abroad and only 1% have left the country completely.

It is important to note that many teams of startups have joined the Armed Forces, Territorial Defense or IT Army, help financially or media, volunteer всіх Everyone understands that in the realities of wartime, everyone’s contribution is important. Some startups make all their services free for users, while others are actively creating new platforms, marketplaces, or other digital projects that bring together those who are willing to help and those who require it.

The poll showed that now, during the war, no matter what field the startup works in, everyone is trying to bring victory closer in all possible ways. It is impossible not to mention the patriotic spirit of Ukrainian startups, which cannot be left out when there is a war in their native country.

At the same time, domestic startups are trying to adapt to new working conditions during martial law and are making considerable efforts to maintain the viability of the business and not to stop working.

24.3% of surveyed startups – continue to work, 46.7% – partially work (mostly remotely), 28% – do not work at all, 1% – have changed their field of activity.

In general, if we talk about the further development of startup projects, the results of the study showed that 41.1% of startups today do not have savings and financial opportunities for the development of startups.

The vast majority of startups surveyed (99% of respondents) said they needed financial support.

At the same time, 85% of respondents have an understanding and vision of what to do next and continue to build plans for their own projects for the future.

37.4% of startups need to relocate the project and team on a temporary or permanent basis.

Among the upcoming tasks, startups call the preservation of the team and its security, reformatting the business model, microloans, finding foreign investment, fundraising, and more.

The Ukrainian startup ecosystem can be an example to the world. Despite difficult conditions, the startup industry in Ukraine is trying to stay afloat. But talents need to be helped. Because their knowledge and competencies are the main resources of startups. During the war, Ukrainian startups not only stood side by side with the defenders of our country and did everything they could on the information and IT fronts, but they also try to keep their projects viable, continue to work, and move forward.

One should not think that the startup ecosystem in Ukraine is paralyzed. Vice versa. More than 70% of startups remained in Ukraine. They are highly motivated to continue implementing their projects. Now they desperately need support and investment. Therefore, we call on international partners to support Ukrainian startups, and hence the economy of our country.

The economic front in this war is as important as the military. Therefore, let us unite our efforts to continue the development of Ukraine's innovation potential.
