Suzuki showed a new hatchback for 5 thousand dollars

Indian Maruti Suzuki introduced the third generation Alto. The hatchback, which shares the platform with the Japanese namesake, has refreshed its exterior and grown in size, with a more spacious interior.

In addition, the models added a more powerful K10C engine as an alternative to the 800cc engine. But the price tag has been kept at the former ultra-budget level: the cost of the ‘older’ version is 399,000 rupees, which in conversion does not exceed 5,000 dollars.

It is worth considering that such a price tag received an option with a top engine – this is a three-cylinder gasoline engine 1.0 with a capacity of 67 horsepower and 89 Nm of torque. The model was already equipped with an earlier version of it, but it had to be removed due to non-compliance with local econorms. A new engine is assembled with a five-speed ‘mechanics’ or a robotic box based on it with one clutch and consumes about four liters of fuel per 100 km.

Later, an even cheaper version with an engine of 48 forces and 69 Nm of torque will enter the market.

The Alto is built on a special version of the Heartect platform, which it shares with the Japanese kei car of the same name. In the new generation, the five-door has grown in length by 85 millimeters, and in height by 45 millimeters, as a result of which there is more space in the cabin, and the trunk now holds 214 liters of cargo against 177.

Despite the low cost, the Alto equipment includes two airbags, ABS, rear parking sensor and seat belt pre-tensioners as required by Indian laws.

In the ‘top’ Alto has air conditioning and a multimedia system with a seven-inch screen.
