Sweden gives Ukraine the largest aid package with airplanes
Sweden has announced the sixteenth and largest aid package to Ukraine to date, worth €1.16 billion. As part of this package, Ukraine will receive aircraft, armored vehicles, ammunition, and tanks. This was reported by the Swedish government on its official website.
Swedish officials emphasized that the package would provide Ukraine with “a completely new potential for strengthening joint air defense.”
Among the new equipment, Ukraine will receive an ASC 890 aircraft equipped with a radar reconnaissance and guidance system. According to the Swedish government, “ASC 890 provides Ukraine with completely new capabilities for radar reconnaissance and combat target control in the air and at sea. It enhances Ukraine’s ability to detect and destroy targets at long range.”
The aid package also included Rb 99 robotic fighter aircraft (AMRAAM), which can be used both on aircraft and in ground-based air defense systems. Sweden will also provide 155 mm artillery shells.
The new package includes the entire Swedish inventory of Pansarbandvagn 302 (Pbv 302) armored vehicles, as well as spare parts, technical equipment and ammunition. In addition, Ukraine will receive tanks that are surplus to requirements in the Swedish armed forces.
Sweden will also provide financial support to funds and temporary initiatives for rapid and large-scale procurement of equipment for Ukraine. The Institute for Total Defense Studies is tasked with helping Ukraine create its own defense research institute. In addition, Ukraine will receive terminals with a subscription to satellite communications.
“Ukraine’s needs are still great, and Russia is putting pressure on Ukraine on several fronts, increasing air strikes on military and civilian targets. That is why the government is helping Ukraine with another record military support package. Swedish support contributes to strengthening the collective Ukrainian military capabilities,” the Swedish government said in a statement.
