Sweden to arm Visby-class corvettes with British CAMM anti-aircraft missiles with a range of 25 km
The Royal Swedish Navy wants Visby-class ships to be able to provide their own defense with CAMM (Common Anti-Air Modular Missile) missiles. The agreement was signed between the Ministry of Defense and MBDA UK.
Sweden is actively strengthening the capabilities of its fleet. The Visby class corvettes currently do not have any air defense system, which would make them vulnerable in the event of real combat.
The Royal Swedish Navy has five ships in service. The first Corvette will be launched for modernization in 2025. The process will take two years. All five members of the Visby class are expected to be armed with CAMM missiles by 2030.
The work will take place at the Swedish company Saab’s shipyard with the involvement of British specialists. As part of the modernization, the Visby class ships will receive a vertical launch system to accommodate the basic version of CAMM, aka Sea Ceptor. The launch range is 25 km.
