Tankers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine showed a rare rocket launcher “Kashalot” for burning out the occupiers (photo)
Our defenders have interesting and rare vehicles at their disposal that can serve for various tasks
The press service of the 3rd Separate Tank Iron Brigade has published photos dedicated to the combat work of their radiological, chemical and biological defense units during the 1.5 years of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
One of these photos captures the process of transporting and unloading from the trawl at least two special purpose vehicles based on MT-LB, which are designated as RHM Kashalot. These are specialized vehicles for reconnaissance of the radiological and chemical situation, which were manufactured in very limited numbers during the Soviet era (according to some sources, only about 40 vehicles).
These vehicles differ from the basic version in that the landing compartment was equipped with specialized CBRN equipment and was armed with only a 7.62 mm PKT machine gun, and these design features made it difficult to convert the Kashalot into an infantry support vehicle.
There is publicly available information that the Armed Forces of Ukraine could have received at least several units of the Kashalot missile system. The first attempt to use them in battles against the Russian occupiers was allegedly recorded back in 2014 during the fighting in eastern Ukraine. However, since it was impossible to upgrade the Kashalots, their combat value was allegedly low, so our troops refused to use them on the front line.
Instead, according to some sources, as of 2020, several copies of the Kashalot could be used in training centers of various branches of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and as transport for newly created flamethrower units.
Therefore, it is quite likely that the Kashalot in the 3rd Tank Brigade’s formation pictured above could have been used both for CBRN missions and as a transport for flamethrowers, which literally burn the occupiers.
