Tens of thousands of viewers watched the fake Apple presentation

Yesterday, the attention of many viewers was drawn to the presentation of new Apple gadgets. And fraudsters decided to use this good excuse.

What does it mean?

Apple broadcast the event live on YouTube, and a video with a fake presentation appeared there. The fake live broadcast attracted attention because its description included an array of Apple keywords in both the title and description. For example, the title is rather strange – ‘Apple Event Live. Apple CEO Tim Cook: Apple and the Metaverse in 2022’. The author also added the Bitcoin and Ethereum logos to the video stream, the text ‘Apple Crypto Event 2022’ and the bold caption ‘BREAKING NEWS’ at the bottom. And if you actually clicked on the channel page (which claimed to be ‘Apple LIVE’), the URL had nothing to do with Apple.

In fact, an old interview with Tim Cook that he gave to CNN in 2018 was broadcast live. It is interesting that at the same time, Tim Cook gave an interview at the Vox Media Code conference regarding the presentation of the iPhone 14.

What is it for? The video was used to draw attention to cryptocurrency scams. And the prank turned out to be successful: at one point, the number of viewers of the fake presentation was about 70 thousand.

YouTube has already removed this and similar broadcasts.
