Tesla will make Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg the largest automotive enterprise in Germany

Tesla’s Berlin plant will soon become the largest automotive manufacturing facility in Germany. The American manufacturer intends to double the area of the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg.

Tesla has submitted documents to the authorities requesting the expansion of the Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory. The project must be approved after the environmental assessment is completed, but the company has already received permission for some changes. A public discussion with the participation of Brandenburg residents is scheduled for mid-autumn this year.

Environmental groups believed that the construction of the Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory would have a negative impact on wildlife, water reserves, and forests. It is likely that these issues will be raised again when discussing the plant’s expansion.

Tesla has already assured that the expansion of the plant will not require additional fresh water. This is due to the fact that the American company’s plant has installed wastewater treatment tools.

The Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg has launched production of the Model Y. This electric crossover became the most popular car in Europe in early 2023. The plant expansion will allow the company to produce 1 million electric vehicles per year, or about 20,000 units per week. As of March this year, the production volume was 5,000 cars per week.
