A jury in Indianapolis found Tesla partially liable for a 2017 accident involving its truck and a motorcyclist.
An Indiana jury has partially found the electric car manufacturer and its employee responsible for a 2017 crash between a Ford truck and a motorcyclist.
Tesla and its employee Kyle Kashuba must pay the victim Christopher Dugan more than $42 million. The jury ruled that Dugan was 30% responsible for the accident and reduced the amount of compensation from $60 million to $42 million.
The accident occurred when the employee was driving a Ford car owned by Tesla. Dugan was driving in the right lane when Kashuba hit the motorcycle because he wanted to turn. The company’s lawyers argued that the victim should have been watching the truck closely, as the Ford driver simply could not see him.
