Tests of advanced air defense system MADIS Mk1 started

The Pentagon has decided to expand the capabilities of the Marine Corps to repel air attacks. Marines received an advanced air defense system MADIS Mk1. Its integration tests took place last month at the Yuma Test Site in Arizona.

The multi-sensor air defense system has a modular design, which makes it extremely flexible. MADIS Mk1 uses the latest technologies for radar detection of air targets and their subsequent tracking. The air defense system can be installed on a variety of vehicles.

Airborne targets are detected by MADIS Mk1 using long-range AESA radars. Radars are capable of tracking several targets simultaneously. To identify them, the air defense system uses infrared and optical sensors.

The air defense system was equipped with anti-aircraft artillery systems and surface-to-air missiles. An automated system is responsible for fire control. The MADIS Mk1 was originally developed to modernize LAAD (short-range air defense battalions) and provide Marines with modern means of countering air threats.
