Thanks to satellite communication, the range of the Magura V5 drone has increased to 800 km

Ukrainian engineers were the first in the world to solve the critical problem of surface drones. It’s about maintaining communication while driving them over long distances.

According to Oleksandr Kyrychevskyi of Defense Express, a specialized publication, the infrequent use of maritime drones in the world is due to this problem. The attack near Novorossiysk showed that Ukrainian engineers managed to communicate with the drone via satellite at a great distance.

The drone that attacked the landing craft looks similar to the Magura V5, which debuted at IDEF’23 in Istanbul. The drone is controlled via a radio network and satellite communications. The camera integrated into the boat transmits the image to the operator’s console online.

The military expert called the attack in Novorossiysk “a loud slap in the face to Russia.” It showed that no ship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet can feel safe anymore. The weight of the Magura V5 warhead is 350 kilograms. This is enough to disable a large landing craft.

According to retired chaplain Pavlo Lakiychuk, the range of Ukrainian naval drones was limited until recently. The incident in Novorossiysk proves that Magura V5 is capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 800 km. This is enough to attack Novorossiysk, Tuapse and other Russian Black Sea ports.
