The Air Force of Ukraine demonstrated the combat operation of the IRIS-T SLM anti-aircraft missile system for the first time, which destroyed more than 60 air targets
Ukraine received two IRIS-T SLM air defense missile systems from Germany. For the first time, the Air Force has published a video of a combat missile of the German air defense system.
Judging by the fact that the video was filmed in winter, we were shown the first anti-aircraft missile system that arrived in Ukraine last fall. The transfer of the second IRIS-T SLM was announced a few days ago.
Ukraine has received medium-range air defense systems. They can intercept helicopters, airplanes, drones, and cruise missiles at an altitude of up to 20 km and a range of up to 40 km. According to the Air Force, the air defense system shown in the video was able to destroy more than 60 air targets. On the first day of use, IRIS-T demonstrated maximum efficiency, shooting down 100% of the targets.
The complex includes a Hensoldt TRML-4D radar station that can detect threats at a distance of up to 250 km. The launcher uses IRIS-T surface-to-air missiles. The chassis is a 10-ton MAN SX45 8×8 truck.
It should be noted that the IRIS-T missile was originally developed for aircraft to replace the AIM-9 Sidewinder. The airborne version appeared in 2005, and the version for launching from ground launchers in 2015.
The IRIS-T SLM system used by the Ukrainian Air Force was adopted last year. According to open sources, the air defense system for Ukraine includes three launchers.
