The model will be produced in only one body type – a station wagon – and is traditionally called the Passat Variant.

Volkswagen presents the first photos and facts about the all-new Passat. The focus is on a powerful aerodynamic design, new high-performance drives, high quality and a host of new technologies.

The car will be shown to the public for the first time at the IAA Mobility exhibition in Munich (September 5-9, 2023). The new Passat will be introduced as a universal variant in the first quarter of 2024. With more than 34 million units sold worldwide, the Passat is Volkswagen’s best-selling vehicle of all time after the Golf and ahead of the Beetle.

The manufacturer claims to have made a completely new but typical Passat. The design is clearly reminiscent of the Passat, clearly Volkswagen, but new from all points of view. The lineup of three new plug-in hybrid engines and five turbocharged gasoline and diesel engine options is a tribute to the trend for environmental friendliness and performance.

Quiet and spacious, the Passat Variant offers a high level of travel comfort and will be additionally available with the new Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC Pro) and the new ergoActive seats (with pneumatic acupressure). The intuitive functions of the digitized cab landscape are a completely new development. The new Passat can also park independently and cover long distances in assisted driving mode.

The new powertrains include two completely newly developed hybrid drives (eHybrid) with a system output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 200 kW (272 hp). In combination with a new 19.7 kWh battery, they provide a range of about 100 km on electricity. This distance makes the new Passat Variant an electric vehicle for everyday life – further supported by short charging times, as the battery can now be charged at AC charging points with an output of 11 kW instead of the previous 3.6 kW.

The Passat Variant eHybrid can even be charged up to 50 kW at DC fast charging stations. In addition, the combination of the electric motor and the new economical turbocharged gasoline engine (1.5 TSI evo2) provides a total range of around 1000 km.

In addition, the Passat is equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid drive (eTSI with 110 kW / 150 hp), which converts kinetic energy into electrical energy and allows you to “roll” without using an internal combustion engine.

Two turbo gasoline engines with an output of 150 kW (204 hp) and 195 kW (265 hp) (2.0 TSI), as well as three turbo diesel engines (2.0 TDI) with an output of 90 kW (122 hp), 110 kW (150 hp) and 142 kW (193 hp) complete the powerplant lineup. An automatic transmission with direct shift (DSG) is standard. The 195 kW and 142 kW versions are equipped with the intelligently controlled 4MOTION all-wheel drive system as standard; all other models have front-wheel drive.

Volkswagen has completely redesigned the high-quality interior. The clearly organized large horizontal display is particularly impressive, although the manufacturer does not provide its exact size. MIB4 serves as the technical platform here. The latest generation of the “modular infotainment matrix” provides intuitive controls that have been consistently adapted to the wishes of Volkswagen drivers.

The new Passat Variant will be released with an improved set of state-of-the-art assistance systems. The range of parking assistance systems is new. These include the optional Park Assist Plus, Park Assist Pro and the memory function for Park Assist Pro. Thanks to Park Assist Pro, the new Passat Variant can enter and exit parking spaces remotely via smartphone.

If the Passat has the memory function for Park Assist Pro, the system can record and save the last 50 meters of your trip on request. When the car reaches the same position again – for example, at the entrance to a carport at home – it suggests a parking maneuver. It is also possible to drive out of the parking space on your own.

In the new Passat Variant, gear shifting is now done via an intuitive steering wheel-mounted shifter: the shifter is pushed forward to “D” for forward and backward to “R” for reverse, and the parking brake is engaged. is activated by pressing the side switch button.

DCC Pro chassis adaptive control represents a new level of suspension technology. It is based on a two-valve technology that is used for the first time in Volkswagen.

The ergoActive Plus seats with their pneumatic 10-chamber acupressure function also offer a high level of comfort while traveling. With a 50 mm longer wheelbase, 50 mm more rear legroom and up to 1,920 liters of luggage space, the Passat Variant is ideal as a versatile vehicle for business and leisure.
