The Armed Forces of Ukraine could use it: the British showed a centipede robot to break through minefields

The British company Advanced Blast & Ballistic Systems (ABBS) showed its concept of the Dragon UGV robotic mine-clearing system, which was presented during the SAE Media Group Future Armored Vehicle Survivability (FAVS) 2023 conference, held in London on November 13-15, 2023.

The main feature of the British Dragon UGV is that it is to be equipped with a large number of rollers, which are to act as “consumable” material when detonated on numerous racist mines. This is stated in the publication of the portal Janes.

There are few details about this development. It is only known that the British ABBS specialists created their Dragon UGV in 2023 in response to the challenges faced by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in overcoming the minefields of the Russian occupiers during the counteroffensive in the South.

It is also noted that due to its specific design, which resembles a centipede, the Dragon UGV should be more resistant to detonation by various types of mines or to damage by racist ATGMs than “classical” demining systems.

So far, only a rendering of the Dragon UGV is publicly available. Therefore, it is difficult to assess whether this development is only at the conceptual stage or is already undergoing its first tests.
