The fight against kamikaze drones costs Ukraine more than the cost of UAVs themselves, — The Guardian

Russia spent from 11 to 18 million dollars on attacks on Ukrainian facilities, and repelling strikes could cost units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine $28 million.

Ukraine’s costs for the destruction of Geran-2 kamikaze drones significantly exceed the amount that Russia paid Iran for the purchase of drones. This is stated in the material of the British publication The Guardian.

Journalists note that over the past month, units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have destroyed at least 161 Geran-2 drones, one Shahed-129 and four even larger unmanned aerial vehicles known as Mohajer-6.

Taking into account the cost of one Shahed-136 kamikaze drone in the amount of 20 to 50 thousand euros, Russia spent from 11 to 18 million dollars on attacks on Ukrainian facilities. Ukraine, for its part, used aviation, S-300 missiles and small arms to repel such strikes. According to The Guardian, Kyiv’s average costs for destroying kamikaze drones can exceed $28 million.

“This underscores the low financial cost to Russia of drone attacks, which continue to terrorize Ukraine, killing civilians and striking the country’s energy infrastructure. However, the UAF has been very successful in shooting down Geran-2 kamikaze drones, which are low and slow “, says the publication.

The executive director of Molfar company Artem Starosek, which prepared an analysis of drone attacks, claims that the use of Geran-2 kamikaze drones by Russia should be considered as a manifestation of the weakness of the Russian Armed Forces. According to him, the Kremlin is losing the war and is forced to purchase UAVs from Iran due to the lack of effective weapons.

Starosek emphasized that the low flight trajectory makes it difficult to detect them by ground defense means, and that in order to further increase the effectiveness of drone destruction, Ukraine needs the technology of “drone capture”.

“We need to know about these drones before they fly over the city, because if you shoot down these drones, they can fall and injure a large number of people,” CEO Molfar concluded.

It should be noted that on October 19, information appeared in the Western media that the European Union is preparing new sanctions against Iran due to the sale to Russia of Geran-2 kamikaze drones, with which the occupiers attack Ukrainian cities.

It was also reported that Iran is sending its military instructors to the occupied Crimea to train Russian servicemen to effectively use Geran-2 kamikaze drones.
