Tesla is ready to start supplying Semi electric trucks. The company has finally started production of the delayed model, Elon Musk assured.
One of the long-term models of the Tesla brand, the Semi electric truck, is almost ready to be delivered to customers. According to the head of the company Elon Musk, Semi finally got on the assembly line five years after the premiere and three years after the planned start of production. The first novelty will be received by the Pepsi company, which ordered a batch of 100 trucks back in December 2017.
According to Musk, Pepsi will receive the ordered Tesla Semi trucks on December 1 of this year. There is no information about delivery to other customers yet. Pepsi, which hopes to use hundreds of electric tractors to reduce its negative impact on the environment, was waiting for the first deliveries until a year ago, although at the time Musk talked about delaying production until 2023 due to a shortage of microchips.
Logistics accounts for about 10 percent of the total carbon dioxide emissions entering the atmosphere through Pepsi’s operations. The company intends to use Semi at a facility in Modesto, California, which it plans to convert to a carbon-neutral site in the future.
As for the Semi itself, it is predicted to have a four-motor power plant. Power is unknown, but Musk has promised acceleration from a standstill to 100 kilometers per hour in 20 seconds even with a full load, as well as the ability to maintain speed even on steep climbs. With a full battery, the model will be able to drive up to 800-1,000 kilometers, and express charging will replenish the energy reserve in the battery from zero to 70 percent in just half an hour.
