“The Germans have never shot down a missile with it”: soldiers appreciate the use of Gepard at the front (photo)

Gepard shells explode in the air after 5 seconds if they do not hit the target. This ensures that they do not fall on civilian buildings.

The German Gepard self-propelled gun has been successfully used to counter Russian missiles, which the Bundeswehr had not done before. The Facebook page of the Separate Presidential Brigade named after Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky provided details.

Oleksandr, nicknamed “Barman,” an anti-aircraft gun operator, noted that the Gepard is equipped with radar. The Ukrainian defenders used it to capture the target. The Germans used this technique to use copters and drones.

“They have never shot down a missile with it. But we realized that it can also shoot down missiles,” he explained.

Oleksandr and his comrades have two rockets and four destroyed Shakhtys on their record. A hard and exhausting duty can be interrupted at any time by an alarm. Subsequently, Gepard is used.

The military also spoke about the principles of work. According to him, the crew commander looks through the periscope, presses the firing pedal, and everyone clearly sees the flash from the explosion of a “shahed” or rocket.

“If we don’t hit the target, the Gepard shells explode in the air in 5 seconds,” he explained.
